Residential Care Facilities

Access to these residential care facilities is limited to individuals with a serious mental disability and is coordinated through the Housing Council. These facilities are for adults and older adults.

  • Adults (18-60 years of age)
    • Front Street Residential Care Facility is a 47-bed residential care facility located near downtown Santa Cruz. There is an associated day rehabilitation program on site.

    • Rose Acres has 34 board and care beds in the San Lorenzo Valley area.

    • Willowbrook Residential Care Facilities consists of a 34-bed adult residential care facility. The facility consists of 4 small housing units and a 19 bed building in a beautiful creek side setting. There is an associated intensive day treatment center on the grounds.

  • Older Adults (older then 60 years of age)
    • Drake House is a 40 bed facility located in Monterey on a hillside with beautiful ocean views. This primarily an older adult residential care facility with enhanced services for people with a combination of both mental health issues and/or complex medical problems.  This a regional program in collaboration with Monterey County Mental Health. Santa Cruz County Mental Health contracts for 5 of the beds, the other beds are utilized by Monterey County Mental Health and private citizens.

    • Willowbrook Residential Care Facilities is a residential care facility for the elderly (over 60 years of age). The facility consists of 1 small cottage containing 6 beds with 24-hour staffing in a beautiful creek side setting. There is an associated intensive day treatment center on the grounds.

Legal and Advocacy Resources

  • The Local Mental Health Board (LMHB) meets the first Monday of each month. The Board consists of client, family members, and community representatives from the County’s five supervisorial districts. For schedule, agenda, & minutes, contact County Mental Health Administration, (831) 454-4767.
  • The Ombudsman Advocate Inc - Patient Rights, 525 Laurel St. Suite 140, Santa Cruz office is a non-profit corporation that provides rights protection and advocacy services for both mental health clients and the elderly. Call (831) 429-1913 or (831) 636-1638 for more information.

Other Santa Cruz County Resources

  • National Alliance for the Mentally III (NAMI) offers education and support for family members of those with mental illness. For more information call (831) 427-8020 or write NAMI, PO Box 360, Santa Cruz, CA 95061.
  • Mood Matters Peer Support Group provides a support group for individuals with mood disorders. This group meets every Mondays from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at MHCAN, 1051 Cayuga and Soquel Avenue.
  • Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA) offers 12- step groups for individuals with a mental disorder and a substance abuse problem. Call (831) 454-9620 for more information.
