Our Vision
The goal of Superstar Nutrition for
Kids is to promote healthy eating and physical activity in communities
throughout Santa Cruz County. We offer a multi-faceted approach to reducing childhood obesity in Santa Cruz County.
What is
Superstar Nutrition for Kids?
Superstar Nutrition for Kids is an
innovative and comprehensive program that works collaboratively with
other Santa Cruz County agencies; offers programming to schools and
other youth agencies; and provides nutrition education to teachers,
parents, and students. In addition to direct services to members of the
community, Superstar Nutrition for Kids works on policy and
environmental change, including advocacy and media components.

Superstar
Nutrition for Kids Program Activities
Schools:
-
Nutrition
education for targeted grades at eligible elementary schools
throughout Santa Cruz County, including taste tests of fruits and
vegetables.
- Promote
sustainable nutrition education by offering a “Train the
Teachers” program that provides teachers with lesson plans and
materials that integrate nutrition into math, reading, science, and
social studies.
- Provide
nutrition curricula to peer educators at after school programs.
- Educate about
nutrition in school gardens.

Environment:

Work with schools, parents, and the
community to guide the school wellness policy development and
implementation process.

Promote
the implementation of salad bars in local elementary schools.

Educational
Materials
"Harvest of
the Month" cards are designed for parents and families. They
highlight seasonal produce with nutrition facts, recipes, and
activities.
