Communicable Disease Surveillance and Control Functions

  • Conducts surveillance for over 80 diseases and disease syndromes including Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Tuberculosis.
  • Educates the public regarding behaviors and practices that contribute to illness and loss of health.
  • Reduces communicable disease transmission.
  • Investigates reports of disease outbreaks and implement control measures to stop the spread in the community.
  • Produces quarterly and annual reports about disease prevalence.
  • Develops and implements plans to respond to Public Health emergencies.
  • Proactively educates and addresses concerns and inquiries of the news media about communicable diseases.
  • Educates the public about immunization programs and promote the health of the community.
