The Communicable Disease Control Unit is responsible for public health functions, including:
 - Conducting surveillance for more than 80 diseases and disease syndromes
 
 - Reducing transmission of communicable diseases
 
 - Investigating reports of disease outbreak
 
 - Promoting community health by sharing information about immunization programs and best behaviors for disease prevention
 
 - Stopping the spread of any disease outbreak in the community
 
 - Developing and executing public health emergency plans for communicable diseases
 
 - Educating the public about behaviors and practices that contribute to illness and loss of health
